Yasmeen Shorish is an Associate Professor and Head of Scholarly Communications at James Madison University. In these roles, she seek to provide leadership for holistic support of scholarly communications across the organization, including the development of inclusive and equitable practices related to publishing model support. She also supports data services on campus, with a focus on data ethics and privacy.
Research interests are in data management education, changes in scholarly communication, data ethics, and issues related to representation and social justice in librarianship. She serves on the Digital Library Federation Advisory Committee (2017-19) and was the Chair of the Association for College and Research Libraries’ (ACRL) Research and Scholarly Environment Committee (2018-19). As Chair of ACRL’s Research and Scholarly Environment Committee, she advocated for the revisions to ACRL’s Plan for Excellence to create more representative objectives for the committee and she helped shepherd a new research agenda for the Association that seeks more open and equitable systems of scholarly communication.
