Sophie Kenney, MLIS, is Cambodian-American and specializes in diverse and inclusive early literacy programming and outreach for public libraries. She is a strong advocate that anti-bias education begins at birth and intentionally plans her storytimes around diverse perspectives rather than tired seasonal themes.
Kenney has taught hundreds of storytime classes for all ages and in her current role she focuses on supporting preschool and kindergarten readiness to underserved populations in Illinois’ second-largest city. Sophie has served on the ALA Public Awareness committee, ALSC 2020 Randolph Caldecott Committee, ALSC Building Partnerships committee and is currently co-chairing the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Within ALSC Task Force. She reviews picture books, middle grade and young adult fiction for School Library Journal and Kirkus Reviews, is a Novelist Advisor and enjoys playing the ukulele.
