Nikhat J. Ghouse (pronounced NIK-Khaath GAWS) is the Associate Librarian for the Social Sciences and Coordinator of the Diversity Alliance Residency Program at American University (AU). In addition to working in libraries for 19 years, Nikhat is also an Organization Development (OD) Consultant and Trainer. She has worked with nonprofit organizations including public libraries and the Association of Research Libraries. As an OD Consultant, Nikhat specializes in organization development, change management, strategic planning, organizational change, organizational culture, diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice leadership, leadership training, coaching, team development, mentoring, residency programs, and more.
Nikhat received her Master of Science in Organization Development from American University. She earned her MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh and her BA in History from Cleveland State University. Nikhat is an alumna of the 2011-2012 Association of Research Libraries’ Leadership & Career Development Program (LCDP) and a 2004 Teacher Track Program of the ACRL Immersion Program. Additionally, Nikhat earned a Professional Certificate in Cultural Competence from the Institute for Cross-Cultural Management at the Florida Institute of Technology.
Prior to AU, Nikhat was at the University of Kansas for nearly 11 years as a tenured Associate Librarian where she held numerous positions at the libraries including supporting the social sciences, outreach, information literacy instruction, collection development, graduate research, and learning commons. Ghouse has also worked at the College of Wooster Libraries as a Resident Reference Librarian and the University of Pittsburgh Libraries as a Reference Librarian.
