Loriene Roy worked for several years as a public services librarian in a mid-sized public library prior to completing her doctoral degree. She worked at the Library Research Center at the University of Illinois for 3 years and has since taught for over 30 years at the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin, helping prepare hundreds of students for careers in librarianship.

She is tribally affiliated (enrolled on the White Earth Reservation, a member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe), has consulted with tribal communities, and has an extensive background working with indigenous peoples from many communities. She has written and published extensively in the areas of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and has taught graduate courses on “Access and Care of Indigenous Cultural Knowledge,” “Library Services to Native American Populations,” “Indigenous Librarianship,” and “Indigenous Information Services” for three LIS programs. She has co-edited 10 books including Indigenous Notions of Ownership and Libraries, Archives and Museums and Tribal Libraries, Archives, and Museums: Preserving Our Language, Memory and Lifeways, and authored over 100 journal articles and 150 or so book chapters and reports.

She has been involved in numerous professional activities around diversity including serving on the inaugural Spectrum Initiative advisory board and the first board for the Joint Conference of Librarians of Color and has given over 600 presentations at venues around the world.
